Description of Disney's Hercules Windows

You take control of Hercules, son of the god Zeus and a mortal woman, the strongest man in the world and the legendary hero in the Greek mythology. Your goal is to prove yourself worthy of being admitted to Mount Olympus, the residence of gods, and to become a god yourself. What you have to do is just go and download the game again. In the archive (remember, the password to extract it is 'hercules') you will find a SETUP.BAT and a SETUPWIN10.BAT. If the first is not working, just use the second. Read Full ReviewDisney's Hercules Action Game is a bright, colorful platforming hack-&-slash that is loads more fun than any licensed release ought to be. The same development team would go on to make Disney's Tarzan, which utilizes many of the same gameplay mechanics and features, though Hercules seems to implement them better.
Throughout the course of the game, you play as Hercules, re-enacting much-lengthened scenes from the original film with movie cutscenes interspersed between levels. The game's visuals are predominantly 2D sprite based with a bit of pre-rendered 3D and a few 3D models. Much of it is gorgeous animation-quality work, but it's meant for a very low native-resolution; full-screen on any modern monitor will show the game's age. Still, it's beautiful, high-frame-count stuff, and the 'drawn' backgrounds are vastly superior looking to Tarzan's rendered environments.
What the game does best is make Hercules feel mighty. He's armed with his trusty sword, which is good for hacking and slashing and has a number of elemental powers it can acquire via certain power-ups, such as fire or lightning. Herc also has big punches, can to lift giant objects, leap great distances and even smash the ground beneath him. Combine all that with the ability to eat up a good bit of damage before he goes down, you have a Hercules that feels super when you play him. The smooth and responsive controls don't hurt, either.
The levels are big and long. Like the later Tarzan game, each stage is more of an endurance trial than a bag of cheap platforming tricks designed to keep you from winning. The 2.5 D portions of levels, though, are one of the game's weak points. Most of the time, you're moving on a single plane, but sometimes the game will mix it up a bit with two or more layers of planes. This isn't a big problem, but the hidden items and enemies obscured by background objects are a nuisance. More noticeable is that they slow the pace with fiddling up and down the transition paths between planes and interrupt the otherwise quick flow of the game.
Overall, I like Hercules a lot. I wish that it had a save system instead of passwords (and that it was easier to obtain the passwords; you have to find 4 secret items in each level to get its password); a save file would make Hercules more conducive to casually playing a few levels at a time. While that's not a huge strike against it, some might find it irritating.

Play as Disney's version of the mythic character Hercules through ten levels of excitement as you battle the bad guys, rescue his girlfriend Meg and protect the people of the city Thebes.
Before you can take Hercules on any adventures, you'll need to get him trained under the guidance of his trainer Phil, a cranky satyr who shows him how to rescue damsels in distress, which is your first task. If you can handle that, you'll get to take on the deadly Centaur Forest.

From there Hercules makes his way to Thebes (also known as The Big Olive), the canyon of the Hydra and Medusa's lair before finally entering the Underworld, from which no one has ever returned, to rescue Meg. There will also be battles against the Cyclops and the Titans to test your mettle.
Being a demi-god, of course, Hercules has more weapons at his disposal than a mere mortal. Besides the usual jumping and sword swinging, he can let loose with a power punch or pull off a mid-air ground slam to take his opponents down. He starts the game with three lives and a full Herometer, which measures his health level; if it reaches zero, he loses a life.
Along the way he can pick up some items which will help him with his quests, such as Hermes' Sandals, which allow him to move faster, and Hercules action figures which restore the Herometer. Extra lives are awarded for grabbing Hercules vases and silver and gold coins grant bonus points at the end of levels.
There are better power-ups to be had as well, gifts from the gods who sit on Mount Olympus high above the world. The Helmet of Invincibility grants temporary invincibility while the Sonic Sword does deadly damage to all enemies who are within close range. The Lightning Sword and Fireball Sword shoot lightning and fireballs which cause extra damage/
Do you win real money on house of fun. Each time Hercules meets Hermes in a level, his progress is saved and he will return to that same point if he loses a life. If he can collect all four Mystery Password Vases in a level, he gets a password which will take him back to the beginning of that level the next time you play.
The book offers training tips and passwords for the first three levels, but after that you're on your own. There are three levels of difficulty to choose from, but the last two levels, Passageways of Eternal Torment and the Vortex of Souls, are inaccessible if you're playing as a beginner.
